The Great Acadian Awakening is a Celebration of the Cajun connection with other French speaking parts of Louisiana's past throughout the world. It's a chance for Louisiana's youth to embrace its culture and be proud of French traditions. The Lake Charles celebration will be Oct. 11, and the free festivities are open to all ages. There will be small fees for food and drink, but entry to the festival to listen to music, lectures, etc., are completely free!
The Festival kicks off in New Orleans, Oct. 7-8; then heads to Houma, Oct. 9-10; Lake Charles, Oct. 11-12; ending in Lafayette, Oct. 13-16.
The festivities in Lake Charles involve speakers, Cajun dancing, live music, a wine event, performances by French speakers, food booths, Cajun French lessons, art vendors, and a chance to explore your family tree with the Genealogical and Historical Library, all on site at the Lake Charles Civic Center, Tuesday, October 11. October 12 is a free day to explore Calcasieu Parish with tours of local attractions.
